Our Specialty Areas:
While our Acupuncturists are general practitioners and can help with most acute and chronic ailments, they specialize in the following areas:
- Fertility Health: Acupuncture is shown to help with all stages of fertility health from increasing the chances of natural conception, increasing the outcome of fertility treatments, supporting a viable and healthy pregnancy, and helping with post-partum health.
As an alternative to fertility treatments: Increasing numbers of women are opting for natural therapies like acupuncture to increase their chances of natural conception. It is believed that acupuncture helps by supporting the body’s endocrine system, increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs and balancing hormone levels. This in turn increases ovarian function in women as well as sperm production in men.
As a complement to fertility treatments: Studies show that acupuncture is particularly beneficial for women undergoing fertility treatments, especially increasing the rates of pregnancy in women undergoing in-vitro fertilization (IVF). In addition to increasing blood flow and oxygenation to the reproductive organs and supporting healthy hormonal levels, acupuncture can significantly reduce anxiety associated with stressful fertility treatments.
- Cancer Support: Acupuncture is shown to help reduce the side-effects of conventional cancer treatments – Chemotherapy and Radiation – in patients. It can also help balance the internal physiological environment that may contribute to creating a cancer friendly environment in the body.
According to the National Cancer Institute, clinical studies show that in cancer patients Acupuncture improves immune function; significantly helps with pain management; and relieves symptoms caused by cancer treatment, including nausea, vomiting, weight loss, cough, chest pain, fever, anxiety, depression, night sweats, hot flashes, dry mouth, speech problems, and fluid in the arms or legs.
- Immune Disorders: Acupuncture is shown to activate the body’s defense systems by influencing both cellular and humoral immunity and the hypothalamic-pituitary control of the autonomic and neuro-endocrine systems. Applications of Acupuncture in this area include acute and chronic infections as well as autoimmune disorders.
Some conditions helped by Acupuncture including inflammation, trauma, tissue healing, burns, ulcers, indolent wounds, necrosis, gangrene, infections, fevers, allergies and more serious ailments like HIV, chronic viral infections (Hepatitis), Rheumatism, Multiple Sclerosis, etc.
- Muscular-Skeletal Health/Pain Management: Acupuncture is shown to release endorphins and opioids, the body’s natural painkillers, and immune system cells as well as neurotransmitters and neurohormones in the brain. Research has shown that glucose and other bloodstream chemicals become elevated after acupuncture.
According to the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, there also is evidence that stimulating acupuncture points enables electromagnetic signals to be relayed at a greater rate than under normal conditions. This may increase the flow of healing or pain-killing natural chemicals to injured areas.
- Anxiety Related Disorders: Acupuncture is shown to restore a calm and centered state of mind by regulating the autonomic nervous system and thereby the body’s “fight or flight” response. When acupuncture needles are inserted into specific points, it has a regulatory effect on the parasympathetic nervous system, which has a calming effect on the physiological (nervous and hormonal) systems of the body.
In addition, the insertion of acupuncture needles release endorphins, which act as natural calming and pain-relieving agents, helping with the emotional effects of depression, as well as the physical symptoms that can often accompany it. But most importantly, Acupuncture works with the whole person to treat the physical, mental and emotional aspects of this condition.
